In reply to D Augade. It may be true, but I would ask them what the speeds for this unlimited roaming is. In most cases, the China telecom providers only allow 2G speeds for international roaming users. Trust me when I say that 2G feels unbelievably slow if you're doing anything but checking email!

I called my cell phone provider and they said I had unlimited international roaming for data and texting. It seems to GOod to be true, but could that be all I need? Not sure if I should still rent the portable wifi just in case?

In reply to kichał. Some places allow for authentication via WeChat, but often that would require the Chinese version of WeChat that has to be associated with your Chinese phone number. I'm not 100% sure about that though!

Hi Josh, thank you for all your posts, they are all informative (although some appeal more to Americans, as opposed to me, citizen of Poland). I have a question – when I first went to Beijing, I remember connecting to some Network (not sure if it was WiFi) that required tapping on something in WeChat. I’m sure I didn’t have Chinese SIM card at that moment. Could it be that instead of receiving text messages, one can use WeChat for authentication?

In reply to dialdo siahaan. Great question. In most cases, yes, you will still need a VPN. The reason is that you're still using the local network as your point of entry into the internet.

I have one question regarding this skyroam, are we still required to install vpn in our gadgets if we choose to connect to internet using skyroam?
